Let's Help Our Friend, Bret!

As some of you may have heard our good friend Bret Egner was in a bicycle accident on Wednesday Jan 25 in downtown Austin. Bret was zipping along 6th in the Red River vicinity on the way to meet up with his wife, Kimberly. Bret had green lights and the right-of-way when two people jaywalked into his path. In the course of trying to avoid a collision, Bret hit the pavement and racked himself up pretty good.
The two pedestrians took off without giving any aid to our fallen friend.
Four days later and lots of appointments and X-Rays, Bret went in for surgery Monday, January 31st to pin and plate his collarbone so that it will heal, and heal properly.
As you guys know Bret makes his living as a musician, bike messenger and expediter at Enoteca. With the injuries he suffered it looks like it will be a few months before he can go back to work.
My first thought was to have a rock and roll benefit to party and help Bret. I know the musicians and our friends would have come out in droves to help out but the logistics of getting everyone together in one city would be a nightmare and take a long time.
Without insurance, Kimberly and Bret will be looking at some pretty big bills soon. I’m asking his friends to help out. Please make a donation to help defray some of these costs. As the Beatles once said, “I get by with a little help from my friends.”
Thanks Pete and Juliette
